UK Tinting Laws

The specific law governing window tinting in the UK is found in the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986. Laws regarding window tinting are designed to ensure driver visibility and road safety.

The regulations specify the permissible levels of tint on different windows of a vehicle. Here’s an overview:

Front Windshield:

  • Visible Light Transmission (VLT): At least 75% of light must pass through.

Front Side Windows (driver and front passenger windows):

  • Visible Light Transmission (VLT): At least 70% of light must pass through.

Rear Side Windows and Rear Windshield:

  • There are no restrictions on the level of tint applied to these windows.
After tint application it is required for the windows to stay stationary for 3-4 days allowing it to dry.
